On Saturday 19th April, Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC will host a matchday against Grimsby Borough dedicated to Polio Awareness.
Bradford AFC has said that it is proud to announce its partnership with British Polio, a national charity known for supporting and empowering people living with polio and Post- Polio Syndrome (PPS), a neurological condition known to affect an estimated 120,000 people in the UK.
This partnership is particularly significant to Bradford AFC because of the club’s historic connection to Jeff Hall, a former reserve player for Avenue, who lost his life to polio.
The British Polio Fellowship supports people with Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS), advocating for them and raising awareness.
Emma, a grand-niece of Jeff Hall said ''Anyone can get polio. Jeff was an incredibly healthy 29-year-old at the height of his career.''
On the British Polio Fellowship, she spoke about their work, expressing that ‘’The work they do is valuable… helping polio survivors who have faced a lifetime of pain.’’
She also went on to say ‘’ It’s an absolute honour for the club to partner with British Polio Fellowship. We’ll do everything we can to raise funds and awareness.’’
Representatives of Rotary International, who play a major role in polio vaccination efforts (especially in the Middle East) will be in attendance.
On match-day, there will be fundraising efforts, talks from survivors of polio and a moment of silence for Jeff Hall.
